Get ready for a wild ride, because Tesla has just unveiled its fastest Full Self-Driving (FSD) profile yet, and it's a doozy!
On Wednesday, Tesla's AI head, Ashok Elluswamy, dropped a hint that left many of us buzzing with excitement. With the release of the v14.1.2 software update, we're in for a treat - a new speed profile that's set to take FSD to the next level.
But here's where it gets controversial... instead of the highly anticipated 'Banish' feature, which would have been a game-changer for autonomous parking, Tesla has introduced 'Mad Max' mode. Yes, you heard that right! A speed profile named after the iconic post-apocalyptic movie franchise.
Mad Max mode promises higher speeds and more frequent lane changes than the already spirited 'Hurry' option. While some may argue that it's an unnecessary addition, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has a different vision. He first teased this mode back in 2018, suggesting it would be ideal for navigating aggressive traffic situations, like those found in cities like Los Angeles.
And this is the part most people miss... Tesla has a history with a 'Mad Max' mode, dating back to the late 2010s. So, it's not entirely new, but its reintroduction with even more speed and aggression is certainly a bold move.
Now, I must admit, I've always found 'Hurry' to be quite realistic in terms of its speed and lane changes, especially on highways. So, Mad Max mode will be an interesting adjustment, to say the least.
But here's the real question: Is this mode truly necessary, or is it just a fun, adrenaline-pumping option for those who crave a faster, more aggressive driving experience?
